POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS 2021

On Friday 19th March, the Vice President of the republic of Ghana, his Excellency, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia launched a publicity and preparation campaign dubbed “100 Days Countdown to the 2021 Population and Housing Census” in Accra to prepare the citizenry for this most important national programme of gathering data on the population and housing situation in Ghana.

The Legal Authority for conducting this Population and Housing Census is the Statistical Service Act 2019 (Act 1003). Among other innovations, the 2021 Population and Housing Census, which begins on the night of Sunday 27th June, will be the first fully digital census, with the use of tablets for data capture instead of traditional paper questionnaires. According to officials of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), going green will save the country from the printing of over seven million household questionnaires.

The PHC of 2021 will also see the implementation, for the first time, data linkage technology that is intended to harmonize and improve statistics in the West Africa subregion.
