LaDMA TO PROSECUTE BILL DEFAULTERS

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has embarked on a massive revenue mobilization and collection drive to amass all unpaid bills due the assembly by property owners and business operators in the municipality.

The Municipal Coordinating Director for the assembly said the exercise is to ensure that the assembly meet its revenue target for the year 2022.

The MCD mentioned that the assembly has embarked on a number of developmental programmes and projects. The projects and the programmes he said cut across a number of government leading programmes and social interventions, like skill training and empowerment of small business, distribution of school furniture, construction of drains and school building in the municipality.

 The MCD stated that the enforcement of the revenue collection was because some ratepayers has not made their payment within the stipulated time. He mentioned that after several follow-ups, individuals and institutions are unwilling to pay.

According to the MCD, notice has been given with a focus on reminding the payer(s) of the past due date of collection and clarifying the implications of actions that will be taken if payment is not made within a specified interval. He said issuance of final demand notice to defaulters has been made and believe the time has come for the assembly to take the necessary action.

The Municipal Coordinating Director believed the assembly has reposition itself by tackling the loopholes opposing Internally Generated Funds (IGF) by implementing a number of policies that includes the prosecution of bill defaulters, regular interaction with ratepayers and operationalization of revenue task force.

He said, by the Local Government byelaw, a person who contravenes any provision of the BOP and Property byelaws commits an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine or in default to a term of imprisonment or both.

The Municipal Coordinating Director grieve for the challenges militating against the assembly notwithstanding the massive stride made by the assembly, and called on all property owners and business operators and stakeholder to help address them to build a well-structured human race for the generation to come.

THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND THE NADMO REGIONAL AND MUNICIPAL DIRECTOR DONATING RELIEF ITEMS TO THE AFFECTED PEOPLE AT BURMA CAMP

In the wake of recent flooding in the Burma Camp area of Accra, the Chief Executive of LaDMA (La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly) and the NADMO (National Disaster Management Organization) Regional and Municipal Coordinating Director of LaDMA have come together to offer relief to the affected people.

The heavy rains that lashed the area caused severe flooding, leading to the displacement of many people from their homes. The situation was further aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had already affected the livelihoods of many in the area.

To address the immediate needs of the affected people, the Chief Executive of LaDMA and the NADMO Regional and Municipal Coordinating Director of LaDMA went to Burma Camp to provide relief items. They were accompanied by a team of volunteers and staff members who helped to distribute the items.

The relief items included food, water, clothing, and bedding, among others. The Chief Executive of LaDMA and the NADMO Regional and Municipal Coordinating Director of LaDMA spoke with the affected people and assured them that the government was committed to helping them get back on their feet.

MUNICIPAL STMIE CLINIC: FOSTERING STEM EDUCATION IN LADMA

LaDMA CLEANS THE MUNICIPALITY FOR HOMOWO FESTIVAL CELEBRATION

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) as part of their responsibilities to ensure a clean municipality has organised a massive clean-up exercise at two electoral areas of Abese/ Abafum/Kowe and Lakpaana on Saturday September 17, 2022.

According to the municipal environmental health director, Mr Patrick W.Tsigbey the clean-up exercise was to ensure that areas chosen are kept clean for the celebration of the La Homowo festival. He mentioned that before the exercise, the assembly embarked on public education using a combination of Latenu Radio FM, Obonu FM and street announcement to ensure that the citizenry take part in the clean-up.

Members in the municipality thanked assembly for the exercise and said that its time the assembly applies the sanitation by-laws to arrest those who deliberately or out of ignorance dump refuse into drains and unauthorized areas in the municipality looking at the money involved during such exercise. They said these moneys could be used for other important projects in the area.

 Chocked drains were desilted and unauthorised structures were removed from the pavement and the drains.

LaDMA STAFF RECEIVED TRAINING ON THE ASSEMBLY’S BYELAWS

Selected senior and junior officers of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has been trained on Protocols and byelaws of the assembly for two days, Wednesday September 8, 2022 and Friday September 9, 2022.

The training according to the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Daniel Nkrumah was to equip and improve the knowledge of the staff of the state of the assembly’s protocols and byelaws.

The selected staff were taken through maintenance of premises byelaws, cemetery byelaws, food, and hygiene, abatement of noise, business operating permits, and licenses byelaws.

Miss Christabel Naa Kai the municipal Human Resource director said that the training was in line with the assembly’s policy to ensure that staff were updated to advance in their calls of duty. Miss Christabel mentioned that the assembly has carry out a lot of training to the staff this year. She said more training would be carried out. Ladma prosecutes sanitation offenders

The La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) in its quest to promote good sanitation practices embarked on an intensive house-to-house sanitation inspection exercise. The exercise was aimed at identifying unsanitary conditions in various homes and ensuring that households kept their surroundings clean.

The inspection exercise, which was conducted over a period of several weeks, involved a team of environmental health officers who visited different households within the municipality. The officers carried out a thorough inspection of each home, checking for any unsanitary conditions such as overgrown weeds, uncollected garbage, and open drains.

The exercise revealed that a significant number of households within the municipality were not adhering to basic sanitation practices. About 76 households were prosecuted for failing to keep their environment clean, as they were found guilty of various sanitation offenses.

Some of the offenses for which the households were prosecuted included dumping of refuse in unauthorised places, allowing their surroundings to become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and failure to keep their surroundings clean.

The LaDMA expressed its commitment to ensuring that the municipality was kept clean and healthy for its residents. The assembly urged households within the municipality to take sanitation seriously and keep their surroundings clean to prevent the outbreak of diseases and other health hazards.

The LaDMA also encouraged residents to report any unsanitary conditions they observe in their communities to the relevant authorities. The assembly emphasized that a collective effort was required to promote good sanitation practices within the municipality.

FINAL YEAR JHS STUDENTS WRITE MOCK EXAMS IN PREPARATION FOR BECE

As the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) draws closer, Junior High School (JHS) students in LaDMA are gearing up to take their mock exams. The LaDMA Mocks is an exam written annually by JHS 3 students to help them prepare for the BECE.

The purpose of mocks is to give students a sense of what to expect during the actual BECE and help them identify areas they need to improve on. This exam is also an opportunity for teachers to assess their students’ strengths and weaknesses and provide them with tailored feedback to help them improve.

Preparations for the 2022 mocks are already underway, with teachers working hard to ensure that their students are well-prepared for the exam. Students are being given extra study materials and revision classes to help them review and consolidate what they have learned throughout the academic year.

The Mock is not just about testing students’ knowledge and understanding of various subjects, but also about building their confidence and reducing exam anxiety. GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL MINISTER URGED MMDAs TO ENFORCE OPERATION CLEAN YOUR FRONTAGE.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr Henry Quartey has directed the MMDAs in the region to enforce the operation clean your frontage, as a result the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA ) on Thursday August 25, 2022 embarked on the enforcement of the exercise across the ten electoral areas of the municipality.

According to Mr Patrick W. Tsigbey the environmental health director, the exercise was to have a clean and healthy environment to enhance the image of the municipality. He said the municipality is one of the key MMDAs in the region, which holds a lot of industries, hotels, embassies, the Kotoka International airport, and other high institutions. He said, every clean city worldwide attracts investors and for that matter, the management of the assembly find it fit to keep the area clean.

Activities for the exercise included sweeping of public places, removal of waste from the gutters, weeding of open spaces, educating the public on the byelaws.

La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has partnered with the Ghana Youth Advocacy Organization (GAYO), an NGO dedicated to improving sanitation in various communities. The partnership aims to improve the sanitation situation in the municipality by promoting good waste management practices and creating awareness about the importance of proper sanitation.

According to Hon. Solomon Nikoi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of LaDMA, the partnership is part of the assembly’s efforts to ensure that the municipality is clean and healthy for all residents. He further noted that the assembly is committed to working with relevant stakeholders to achieve its sanitation goals.

The partnership with GAYO will involve joint efforts to create awareness about proper waste management practices, including the separation of waste at the source, composting, and recycling. Additionally, GAYO will support LaDMA in its efforts to enforce sanitation regulations, especially regarding the disposal of waste in unauthorized areas.

The partnership with GAYO is just one of the many initiatives that LaDMA has undertaken to improve sanitation in the municipality. The assembly has also intensified its efforts to provide waste collection services and enforce sanitation regulations, including the prosecution of individuals who violate the rules.

Strengthening Community Knowledge and Adherence to COVID-19 Protocols

The Kpeshie Zonal Council, in collaboration with selected Assembly Members, recently embarked on a community sensitization and education program to promote adherence to the Covid19 safety protocols. The program, which was held on the 12th of August 2022, was aimed at strengthening and enhancing community knowledge and attitude towards physical distancing, and advocating against fear, discrimination, and stigmatization of individuals and families infected and affected by the virus.

The program had several attendees, including Hon. Teye Wayo, staff of the Asutsuare Area Council, a representative from the Ghana Health Service, Assembly members, a representative from the Environmental Health Department, and Unit Committee members. During the program, several topics were discussed, including sensitization on hand washing with soap under running water, Covid19 protocols, the importance of nose masks, and social distancing.

The program was geared towards educating the community on the importance of adhering to the safety protocols to prevent the spread of Covid19. As part of the program, hand washing, sanitation, and hygiene products such as Covid19 relief items were given to each household and stationed at vantage points in the target communities to ensure adherence to the protocols.

During the program, a total of seventy-eight (78) homes across six communities were contacted, and the total number of persons reached was Two-Hundred and Three (203). The topics discussed during the program were further reinforced through a demonstration on proper hand washing, proper wearing of masks using the elbow when coughing or sneezing, and the frequent use of sanitizer.

Community members also made some recommendations at the end of the program. They recommended that a task force be formed to ensure strict enforcement of the regulations on Covid19 and that the Council should deploy some people to the marketplaces to check good hygiene practices. They also agreed to uphold their civic responsibilities by maintaining social distancing, keeping the environment clean, wearing nose masks, and regularly washing their hands.

In conclusion, the community sensitization and education program organized by the Kpeshie Zonal Council and selected Assembly Members was a success. It helped to increase community awareness on the importance of adhering to Covid19 safety protocols, which would go a long way in preventing the spread of the virus. The community members’ recommendations should be taken into consideration and implemented to ensure that the community remains safe from the virus.
