A 41- year old Chartered Banker, Mr. Godwin Odoi from La adjudged the overall best farmer for Dade-Kotopon Municipality in the Greater Accra Region. He was presented with a double door refrigerator, one water tank, two Knap sack sprayers, three pair of wellington boots, five cutlasses, one full piece of cloth, and a certificate at the municipal edition of the 36th National Farmers’ celebration, which took place at the forecourt of the Ghana International Trade Fair Center, La.
Mr. Godwin Odoi, who has been rearing broilers, cockerels, layers, and turkey for the past five years, is also the chief executive officer of Royal Vogo Waste Management Company. He also gives back to society by engaging the youth and supporting other family relations. Mr Godwin described the honor done him as very unbelievable and urged the youth to take agriculture as a very serious business.He thanked the government for continuous support for farmers and appealed to the traditional authorities to make land available for larger scale farming in the municipality.
The celebration also saw nine others honored for their role in projecting and promoting farming and other agriculture programmes in the municipality.The other winners also took home chest freezers; knap snack sprayers, a pair of Wellington boots, half piece of clothes and certificates.
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon. Solomon Nikoi Kotey congratulated all the winners for their role in the development of agribusiness in the municipality.
The MCE bemoaned land scarcity that is militating against farmers in the municipality. Hon. Solomon Nikoi Kotey called for innovative ways of doing agribusiness in the municipality. He assured the farmers of the assembly’s commitment to the development of the agribusiness sector of the local economy and will do whatever is required to ensure its success to address the issues of unemployment in the area.
He said the assembly will ensure that the municipality benefits from every government support programmes for agriculture development in the country.
