LaDMA SUPPORT NATIONAL TREE PLANTING EXERCISE

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly on Friday June 11, 2021 embarked on the Green Ghana project to plant trees at various communities and schools in the Municipality.

The Green Ghana Planting is aim to address Ghana’s reforestation to save its depleting forest reserves as well as ensure climate change adaptation. The reforestation is also a core project for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA).

The Municipal Chief Executive for LaDMA, Hon. Solomon Kotey Nikoi, led the tree planting exercise that started from Zenith University stretch to Tse Addo last stop, the Kpeshie lagoon enclave, and some selected schools in the municipality.

The “Green Ghana” planting exercise received massive support from the La Traditional Council, Tse-Addo Resident Association.

Hon. Assembly Members, National Service Personnel the NABCO Personnel and the Forestry Commission.

Hon. Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the MCE for LaDMA applauded the participants for their responses for the exercise. The MCE stated that about nine thousand eight hundred (9,800) trees would be planted in different localities within the Municipality and urged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of tree planting at their various home.

SECOND JAB OF THE COVID-19 VACCINE, LADMA

     The second Jab of the Covid-19 Vaccine commenced at the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly LaDMA over the last weekend, people around the municipality approached the assembly for the second jab of the Covid-19 Vaccine.  They were all masked up uttering their readiness for the vaccination. The health officials advised the participants to eat well enough to avoid any complications after the second jab.

Health Official, Christiana Otoo (supervisor, La North) stated that the exercise had moved on well despite a few challenges they faced on the first day but the subsequent days had them moving well with the system. So far so good as compared to the first, jab.

     According to the supervisor, the first jab recorded about 16,000 people with same number expected for the second jab. She said the impact of the second jab was mild, as most of them had not made any complaints yet because the antigens had already formed after the first jab of the vaccination. 

Speaking with Evangelina Adjei (Public health nurse), she stated, “we first ask whether the person has eaten because we don’t want to inject the vaccine on an empty stomach.”

She further stated that most complaints they had during the first jab were; headaches, fever and dizziness. She therefore advised the public to consume more fruits and vegetables to boost their immune system.

     Speaking with Mrs Naomi Adjeley after her second jab she stated that she had experienced few body pains and fever after the first jab and was yet to witness the effects of the second jab.Mrs Ofori expressed that she had no effect after both jabs of the vaccine and that it is safe for all.

Mr Aboya also narrated his experience stating that after the first vaccine he experienced slight pains in his arms, dizziness and recovered after a few days. He urged the public to take part in the exercise because there are no severe side effects of the jab as circulated by some Ghanaians

RTI ACT SENSITIZATION PROGRAM HELD AT LaDMA

As part of efforts to equip some key staff members of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly to have first-hand knowledge on the Right to Information Act (Act 989) and the process involved to have access to information. Some resource officials from the RTI Division of the Ministry of Information had a sensitization program to educate staff on the implementation of the RTI Act (Act 989) on Wednesday, 26th May 2021.

Some key areas the officials touched on include;

  • know your Right to Access Information from a public institution
  • Know Who to Contact within an Organization for information
  • Know the Time Limits to source for information
  • Know What  to do if You Do Not Have Access to relevant information you want
  • The importance of RTI
  • Structure of the RTI
  • The role of public institution in the implementation of RTI

The Right to Information Act is an Act to provide for the implementation of the constitutional right to information held by a public institution, subject to the exemptions that are necessary and consistent with the protection of the public interest in a democratic society, to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in Public affairs and provide for related matters.

The act was proposed by a private entity in 1999 till 2019 when it was assessed and became effective in 2020.

LaDMA EMBARKS ON DEMOLISHING EXERCISE AT EAST LA ENCLAVE

          The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has embarked on massive demolishing exercise at East La (Tse Addo). The exercise became possible after series of notices and publicity to the affected people to vacate the areas earmarked for the demolishing. The exercise that started at East La roundabout on Tuesday, 18 May 2021 will continue until all illegal structures at unauthorized areas within the La Municipality are cleared.

Speaking to some of the affected traders at the Zenith University College enclave, madam Regina said that they received the notice about three months ago and they thought it was just the normal warning they received from the assembly. According to her, the exercise came at the time they were recovering from the COVID-19 setback.

        The information services department upon reaching one of the victims Gifty a food vendor, who was affected by the exercise stated that they had been given notices three months prior to the demolition exercise but they had gone to see the assembly hierarchy to plead with them, but all seemed to have fallen on deafened ears. She went on to say she does not know where to go now if she moves.

Also, Okpoti Tetteh the husband of an affected victim stated that notices were given to them and that was a good initiative, however, their sources of income has been taken from them. He further explained that should the area be given to others if they are vacated from the area, they would not be pleased with the assembly.

          Finally, another victim of the exercise stated that for years now the assembly has always given notices for eviction but nothing had happened so they assumed it was one of their usual notices till the demolishing commenced.

The assembly assured the residents of the La enclave of a continuous and effective effort to make the community a clean and admirable one. The assembly went on to advise the residents with intentions of starting businesses to make sure they get their permits and renew them when the need be.

LaDMA TRAINED REVENUE MOBILIZATION OFFICERS

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly as part of it social responsibility on Wednesday April 14, 2021 schooled Six Five-revenue collectors on modern technology to mobilised revenue in the municipality.

Participants for the training drawn from the Municipal Finance Department, Budget, Internal Audit, MIS and some selected staff from Physical Planning, Works, and the Nation Builders Corp. They were taken through Map Reading, Understanding GPS Coordinates, and Categorization of buildings, plots, and properties and Using Google docs in data capturing to get real time update of database data using Tse-Addo as an experimental study.

The coordinating director for the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Mr Daniel Nkrumah urged the participants to be committed to the task ahead. According to him the outbreak of the COVID- 19 Pandemic affects the assembly revenue base and could not achieved its target to address some of the infrastructure deficits in the municipality. He urged the officers to identify private own businesses and estate owners who have default payment of Business Permits and Property Rates respectively.

Mr Daniel Nkrumah bemoans the activities of Businesses and Property owners who make so much profit but pay very petite to the assembly and called for the review of some of the businesses and properties in the municipality.

LaDMA Holds Town Hall Meeting

As part of its social responsibilities, The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, (LaDMA) on Wednesday March 31, 2021 held its first town hall meeting for the year at the La Presbyterian Church of Ghana (Epiphany Congregation, Kaajaano). The meeting was to take stock of the activities and projects undertaken by the assembly for the year 2020.

The focus of the assembly is to improve the general sanitation, educational facilities for quality education, and the general security in the municipality, create jobs for the people especially for the youth and women, improve revenue mobilization and customer service standards as well as promote participatory preparation of medium- term development plan for 2022 to 2025.

General public

In his address, the MCE for LaDMA Hon. Solomon Nikoi Kotey said funds were available for the execution of major projects and activities that were undertaken by the assembly during the period. He told members of the assembly and stakeholders that, only four out of 100 projects were not accomplished due to the COVID-19 pandemic and revenue mobilization issues.

The projects includes the one tree per child, my first day at school, science technology mathematics innovation and engineering and other education and sensitization programmes, but said the projects would be rolled out for the year.

 

Municipal Planning Officer

According to the MCE, indiscriminate disposal of waste, non-payment of property rates, business operating permits, allocation of building permits and building at unauthorized areas were major challenges militating against the programs and activities of the assembly and called on stakeholders to honour their responsibilities to move the assembly forward.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

As part of government effort to address conflict in the country, assembly members and selected senior staff from the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly was trained on conflict management in the Eastern Premier Hotel.

The training was to equip the participants the skills needed to handle conflicts in their electoral areas and the municipalities.

Participants were taken through Alternative Dispute Resolution, Communication Skills and good working relationship to win the public support in addressing conflicts.

The three days training was facilitated by Taschol Consult from Thursday March, 25 2021 to Saturday March, 27, 2021.

POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS 2021

On Friday 19th March, the Vice President of the republic of Ghana, his Excellency, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia launched a publicity and preparation campaign dubbed “100 Days Countdown to the 2021 Population and Housing Census” in Accra to prepare the citizenry for this most important national programme of gathering data on the population and housing situation in Ghana.

The Legal Authority for conducting this Population and Housing Census is the Statistical Service Act 2019 (Act 1003). Among other innovations, the 2021 Population and Housing Census, which begins on the night of Sunday 27th June, will be the first fully digital census, with the use of tablets for data capture instead of traditional paper questionnaires. According to officials of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), going green will save the country from the printing of over seven million household questionnaires.

The PHC of 2021 will also see the implementation, for the first time, data linkage technology that is intended to harmonize and improve statistics in the West Africa subregion.

ASSEMBLY MEMBERS URGED PRESIDENT TO RE-APPOINT SOLOMON NIKOI KOTEY

General Assembly

The assembly members for the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly LaDMA called on the president to re-appoint Hon. Solomon Nikoi Kotey as the MCE for the municipality. The endorsement of the MCE by the assembly members was because of his performance and contributions he made to the development of the municipality.

The assembly members made the appeal on Wednesday March 17, 2021 at the 4th Ordinary General Meeting of the La Dade- Kotopon Municipal Assembly. The Meeting came off at the assembly hall and presided by Hon. Emmanuel Nyarko Baah, the presiding member and assembly member for Kaajaano electoral area.

LaDMA HANDOVER REFURBISHED SCHOOLS

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly has handover three schools which was renovated to boost teaching and learning in the municipality to the school authorities.

The schools are south La Estate 2 Primary School and KG, the Chirings Complex KG and Maale Dada Basic School. The playgrounds for the pre-schools was installed with play items. The renovation forms part of the assembly’s activities to improve access to education in the municipality.

The MCE for the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon Solomon Kotey Nikoi pledged to address issues militating against other schools in the municipality. Hon Solomon Kotey Nikoi advised the teachers to ensure that the pupils adhere to the COVID- 19 social and preventive protocols.
