MCE PLANT FIRST TREE TO MARK GREEN GHANA DAY IN LaDMA

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly on Friday June 9, 2023 plated 5,000 seedlings across the municipality as part of the activities to mark the Green Ghana Day.

The Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi planted the first young branch at the assembly’s premises followed by the Deputy Director Mr Henry Zengers and the Assembly Members

Speaking on the theme ‘OUR FOREST OUR HEALTH’, the MCE Solomon Kotey Nikoi called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the exercise and fully take concern of the seedlings planted. He said the future of La and that of Ghana hang on how well the citizenry will look after the seedlings. He urged stakeholders to stop cutting down trees as a basis of energy.

On her part, Mrs Emelia Monney, the director for Agric said her outfit in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant department and units under the assembly are to persistently monitor the development of the seedlings and offer any technical backing to any member in the community to enable the trees to establish well.

She mentioned that prior to the exercise the assembly had embarked on an awareness creation to prepare residents on the exercise and how to monitor and upkeep for the seedlings.

She call on residents to come for the seedlings. Some of the trees planted were Mahogany, avocado, coconut, mango, lemon, orange rain trees, and others.

Mr Henry Zengers the deputy director of the assembly point out that the planting of the trees is to tackle the climate crisis. He advised the citizenry to value the importance of trees or faced the consequences of their own act.

In the heart of Ghana, during the second week of May 2023, a vibrant celebration unfolded, illuminating the significance of children’s health. From Monday, the 8th, to Friday, the 12th of May, the nation came together under the theme ‘The Big Catch-up, reaching the unreached through Child intervention,’ marking the annual Child Health Promotion Week Celebration (CHPWC).

Aims and Objectives: Focused on the Littlest Lives

The primary objective of this year’s celebration was clear: to intensify efforts in increasing knowledge and health coverage for children, particularly those often left untouched by routine outreach services. The week aimed to create awareness and amplify efforts in exclusive breastfeeding, vitamin A coverage, immunization, the use of long-lasting Insecticide Treated Nets, and the promotion of antenatal, supervised delivery, and postnatal care for mothers and newborns.

Week-Long Activities: Weaving a Tapestry of Care

The celebration unfolded as a carefully orchestrated series of events, starting from the strategic distribution of letters to the Municipal Assembly, Education, and Health Facilities. Awareness spread through home visits, radio discussions, and the launch at Arakan Medical Center, Burma Camp, on the 5th of May, 2023. The celebration was not just about activities but a collaborative effort at every level, from districts to facilities, guided by the CHPWC committee.

Key Activities and Initiatives: Seeds of Knowledge and Care

Health Education and Radio Discussions: Latenu FM Station became a forum for enlightening discussions, empowering mothers and caregivers with insights into their children’s nutrition. Simultaneously, health education permeated static and child welfare clinics, creating spaces for questions and shared learnings.

Nutrition Counseling: A pivotal activity aimed at guiding mothers and caregivers in making informed nutritional choices for their children. This counseling occurred at various points, including child welfare clinics, ANC, PNC, and home visits.

Food Demonstration: At the core of empowering caregivers, four food demonstrations took place at Arakan Medical Center and Auntie Otsoo CWC site. Local crops and dishes took center stage, offering both visual and tangible lessons in proper cooking and nutritional choices.

Essential Services Rendered: Nurturing Growth, One Child at a Time

From growth monitoring to immunization, the celebration left no stone unturned in ensuring essential services reached the little ones. Growth monitoring saw hundreds of children assessed, while immunization covered a range of vaccines, from BCG to measles-rubella. Health education, nutrition counseling, and the distribution of long-lasting Insecticide Treated Nets added layers of care.

Challenges and Recommendations: A Roadmap for Future Celebrations

Challenges, such as restricted access to private schools and limited funds, were acknowledged. The report concluded with recommendations for intensified communication efforts at the national level and the allocation of adequate funds to execute activities effectively.

La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly Holds 2nd Quarter Management Meeting

The La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly recently held its 2nd quarter management meeting, demonstrating its commitment to effective governance and community development.

The meeting, chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive, brought together department heads and key stakeholders to review the assembly’s performance in the first half of the year and strategize for the remaining quarters.

Key issues discussed included the progress of ongoing projects, financial performance, and the challenges faced by the assembly. The meeting also provided a platform for departments to share their successes and learnings, fostering a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.

The Municipal Chief Executive emphasized the assembly’s dedication to serving the people of La Dade Kotopon and urged all departments to work collaboratively to achieve the assembly’s objectives. The Hon. Municipal Chief Executibe Of La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly (Ladma)On The Construction Of Drains At Vredes-Mantiase

On Thursday, May 18,2023, the Municipal Chief Executive for the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon. Solomon Nikoi Kotey, engaged the residents of Mantiase community within Mantiase/Tse-Addo Electoral Area as part of his routine engagement with the good people of the Municipality. The purpose of the engagement was to interact with the residents on general issues and delved on sanitation and drainage issues affecting the community.

He informed the people that to improve the drainage system, the Assembly through the support from Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) would be constructing drains through Mantiase to prevent perennial flooding. He stated that the Government of Ghana led by H,E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is much concerned about improving situations,saniiation and drainage system therefore, he and his team are working assiduously to guarantee  human safety, peace and security.

The residents among others observed that, the poorly designed drainage system which is susceptible or prone to clogging with debris has contributed greatly to the issues of flooding in the area and therefore the proposed construction works should consider the design of the drain to be able to contain the volumes of rain water that come from upstream and homes through to the sea.

In response, the Works Engineer, Physical planning Officer, Urban Road Engineer and other Senior members of the Assembly who were at the meeting took turn to address the audience.

The concerns and observations made by the residents were addressed. The Municipal Works Engineer indicated that, designs for the drains to be constructed had already taken into consideration their plight.

The Hon. MCE, technical officers and residents after the deliberations toured the stretch where the drains would be constructed to have firsthand information and to appreciate the enormity of the challenges the residents face any time it rains.

The residents expressed their gratitude with the development and thanked the MCE and the Assembly for the proposed project.

ACCRA, LaDMA MPCU HAPPY WITH PROGRESS OF WORK DONE AT KEY PROJECT SITE

The Municipal Planning Coordinating Unit of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly has visited a number of the assembly’s key project sites for the second quarter of 2023.

Sites visited included the Construction of a 3- storey 18- unit classroom block with landscaping at the La Wireless Cluster of Schools, a 2-storey 6-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities and landscaping at the La Salem Presbyterian Primary School. Others are a 400 meters 0.9 U-drain at the Airport Police Barracks, the rehabilitation and re-roofing of basic schools in South La and the staff canteen.  

The coordinating director of the assembly, Mr Daniel Nkrumah mentioned that for the last decade the assembly has exhibited a sterling record of accomplishment of accounting to the stakeholders by continually improving. The remains as one of the finest assemblies in the country with a significant growth of development that have guided all activities for the years.Mr Asi Amah of the Urban roads department stated that the 400 meters 0.9 U- drain coast about Gh₵ 695.000.00 with the funding sourced from DACF. He said the drain when completed would address the perennial flooding in the area. He added that the assembly took care of issues affecting the communities by providing them with their needs.

At the La Wireless Cluster of Schools and the La Salem Presbyterian Primary, Mr Richard Sowah estimated work done to be 85% and 95% representatively from Works department.

According to Mr Richard Sowah, the La Salem Presbyterian Primary School would soon be handed over by the contractor. He confirmed that the funding sourced for the project was from DACF and RFG.

The contractor, Ellbus Company Limited was on site at the time when the team visited the area and was happy to meet the monitoring team while on site. Members of the monitoring team were provided with the opportunity to question and discuss issues on the projects.  Responding to questions from the members of the MPCU, the supervising consultant of the school project, the Works engineer from the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly said he  was very much impressed with the quality of work done and said the result was due to constant supervisory given to the contractor and cordial relationship that exist between the two.

La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly Convenes 1st General Assembly april

The Chief Executive of the La Municipal Assembly embarked on a tour to inspect unauthorised developments at La Boma and Kpeshie Lagoon. The visit, which took place yesterday, was part of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring sustainable development within the municipality.

At La Boma, the Chief Executive expressed concern over the rapid and unregulated developments in the area. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing planning regulations and urged developers to seek the necessary permits before commencing any construction activities.

The tour continued to Kpeshie Lagoon, where the Chief Executive observed the encroachment on the lagoon’s buffer zones. He emphasized the importance of preserving our natural resources and warned against activities that could lead to environmental degradation.

The Chief Executive assured residents that the Assembly is taking steps to address these issues and promote responsible development. He called for the support of all stakeholders in achieving this goal.

Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the Municipal Chief Executive of La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has assured the people of La in the Greater Accra Region of the assembly’s commitment to alleviate incidence of flooding to protect lives and properties in the municipality.Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi gave the assurance at this year’s Town Hall Meeting held at Sophia McKeon Auditorium-La on Wednesday April 26, 2023 under the theme: ‘ Accounting to the people: Responsibility in ensuring flood-free municipality’.

The MCE said, as a sign of goodwill for the people, the assembly has decided to include stakeholders in the strategy to ensure a flood-free municipality. Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi mentioned that the urban areas face unprecedented problems of widening income inequality and increase vulnerability to disaster and climate change, which the municipality have experienced recurring flood Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi revealed that, poor sanitation and drainage infrastructure, overcrowding, and tax regulatory compliance regarding sanitation drainage and waste management area the result of the flooding. He said in the wake of this, the GARID projects under the funding by the World Bank is to strengthen the national capitals resilience with the initial phase lasting five years from 2020 to 2025.

Responding, the MCE of LaDMA Mr Solomon Kotey described the assembly continuous performance as team work with fulfilment of the vision to bring governance closer to the doorsteps of the people to attract both local and foreign investors to invest into the municipality.

According to Mr Solomon Kotey, the MCE of LaDMA, the implementation of the religious revenue improvement action plan, the continuous updating of the existing data, the establishment of additional revenue points and the innovation of collector mechanisms to reduce cost of collection was hallmark of the assembly’s thrive story.

Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi the Municipal Chief Executive of LaDMA mentioned that, the 2023 town hall meeting is aimed at providing the citizens with the platform for open dialogue to express concerns. He said in 2022, the assembly embarked on a number of initiatives and projects on government flagship initiatives, social intervention initiatives, and physical development across the municipality.

Uniting Against Tuberculosis: La Dade-Kotopon Municipality’s Commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day

On the 24th of March each year, communities worldwide come together to observe World Tuberculosis Day, a poignant reminder of the ongoing battle against this infectious disease. The roots of this global awareness day trace back to 1842 when German physician Heinrich Hermann Robert Koch identified mycobacterium as the causative agent of tuberculosis. Dedicated to raising awareness and garnering support in the fight against TB, the day is marked by a range of activities, including media engagement, street floats, seminars, durbars, and screening initiatives.

In the La Municipality, the 24th of March was not just a date on the calendar but a call to action. Under the leadership of the Honorable Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Health Directorate, the community actively engaged in a series of impactful activities to educate the public and encourage collective efforts in the fight against TB.

Educational Endeavors: Fostering Awareness in Every Corner

The municipality took a comprehensive approach to health education and sensitization, ensuring that information about TB reached every corner. Health facilities across the municipality became hubs for disseminating knowledge, empowering individuals with vital insights into the disease.

Radio LATENU, a community radio station, became a powerful ally in the campaign against TB. A dedicated radio talk session served as a platform for in-depth discussions on TB, reaching a broader audience and breaking down complex medical information into accessible knowledge.

Reaching the Hearts of Communities: Sensitization Beyond Borders

The La Polyclinic TB team orchestrated an impactful outreach program, setting up camp at the La Market Complex. Using TB screening tools, they screened 106 individuals, identifying 16 presumed cases and initiating treatment for one confirmed case. The screening extended beyond TB, encompassing critical health metrics like blood sugar levels, malaria, blood pressure, and weight.

The team’s commitment transcended physical boundaries. St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School became a focal point for education, where the TB team, in collaboration with the school nurse, sensitized the staff and a student body of approximately 2000 individuals. An interactive session provided a platform for questions and answers, fostering a deeper understanding of TB within the younger generation.

Empowering Through Information: Beyond Screenings

The fight against TB extended beyond screenings to the distribution of leaflets and posters. These educational materials were strategically disseminated, reinforcing essential information about TB prevention and early detection.

A Multi-Faceted Approach: Collaboration in Action

Acknowledging that community health is a collective responsibility, the La Municipality recognized key stakeholder’s instrumental in the success of World Tuberculosis Day activities. The collaborative efforts of the Municipal Assembly, Radio LATENU, La Polyclinic TB Team, La Market Leadership, and the entire La community were integral to the campaign’s success.

A Promising Future: Initiatives on the Horizon

In his closing remarks, the Honorable Municipal Chief Executive shared promising initiatives. Plans were underway for drainage construction and the repair of malfunctioning streetlights, particularly in the Tse-Addo area, enhancing security measures within the municipality.

The members of the La Burma Valley Residents Association expressed heartfelt appreciation for the engagement and assurances given by the Hon. MCE. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to more such engagements, recognizing the pivotal role they play in driving development within the municipality.

LaDMA Strengthens the Sub-Structures

The La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) in February 2022 reorganized its two Zonal Councils to improve its services and better serve the people. The Councils were created to decentralize decision-making and provide effective representation to the communities in the municipality.

The reorganization involved the election of Council Chairs who will serve a two-year term in office. The elected Council Chairs are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring effective communication and collaboration between the Assembly and the communities in their respective zones.

The move by LaDMA to reorganize its Zonal Councils is part of its efforts to decentralize decision-making and improve service delivery to the people. The Zonal Councils play a critical role in ensuring that the voices of the people are heard, and their needs are addressed.

The Councils provide a platform for community members to engage with their leaders and discuss issues affecting their communities. They also work closely with the Assembly to identify and prioritize development projects in their respective zones.

The reorganization of the Zonal Councils is a clear indication of LaDMA’s commitment to promoting good governance and ensuring that the people’s needs are met. By providing effective representation and decentralizing decision-making, the Assembly is working towards creating a more inclusive and responsive government.

The newly elected Council Chairs are expected to work closely with the Assembly and the communities in their respective zones to identify and address their development needs. They will also serve as a bridge between the people and the Assembly, ensuring that the people’s voices are heard and their needs are met.
