CLEARING OF STRUCTURES ON WATERWAYS: DEMOLITION OF OBSTRUCTIVE BUILDINGS AT TSE ADDO

In an effort to prevent flooding in the Tse Addo community, an exercise was carried out to clear structures obstructing the construction of drains. The exercise was initiated by the Kpeshie Divisional Police Command in collaboration with the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly. The exercise targeted structures built on the waterways, hindering the construction of drainage systems, and posing a threat to the community during heavy rainfall.

During the exercise, some structures located within the right of way were demolished, and the occupants were advised to remove other structures built on the waterways. The exercise was conducted with the aim of enforcing development control laws and regulations to ensure that waterways and drainage systems are free from obstructions.

The exercise was well received by the community, as residents acknowledged the need for such activities to be carried out regularly to prevent flooding during the rainy season. The authorities also took the opportunity to educate residents on the need to avoid building structures on waterways, as this poses a risk to both the environment and human lives.

In conclusion, the exercise carried out to clear structures on the waterways in Tse Addo is a step in the right direction towards preventing flooding in the community. The authorities responsible for enforcing development control laws and regulations are encouraged to carry out similar exercises in other communities prone to flooding to safeguard lives and properties during the rainy season.

RESIDENTS’ ACCESS RESTORED: UNAUTHORIZED CONTAINER REMOVED FROM RIGHT OF WAY AT LA

The La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly has successfully removed an authorized container which was blocking the right of way and preventing residents from accessing their homes. The container was situated in a way that blocked access to the road, hindering free movement of people and vehicles.

The LaDMA officials took swift action in accordance with the Local Governance Act 2016, Act 936, which gives them the mandate to regulate, control and monitor the use of public spaces within the district. The authorities made several attempts to contact the owners of the container to remove it but all efforts proved futile.

The situation posed a great risk to the safety of residents, especially in the event of an emergency. The authorities had no choice but to take the necessary action to ensure that the right of way was cleared.

The operation was carried out without any resistance from the owners of the container, and no damage was done to the container. It was removed peacefully with the help of heavy-duty machinery and taken to a temporary holding area for safekeeping.

The removal of the container has brought great relief to the residents, who can now access their homes without any hindrance. The LaDMA authorities have also advised individuals and organizations to follow the proper procedures when placing containers or any other structures within public spaces to avoid similar occurrences in the future.

The district assembly has reassured the public that it will continue to monitor and regulate the use of public spaces to ensure that they are used in a way that does not endanger public safety or impede the free flow of traffic.

LaDMA DEMOLISHES ILLEGAL STRUCTURES

LaDMA on Monday July 5, 2021 demolished illegal structures built on waterways in the municipality.

The exercise was led by the works department of the assembly, the exercise began from the La Palm wine junction to the wireless junction where shops, containers and abandoned vehicles on the street and walk ways where removed.

Before the exercise, the assembly sent warning letters to the affected people and some encroachers to vacate the area.

Encroachers where aware of the intended exercise and therefore did not have any excuse.

LaDMA EMBARKS ON DEMOLISHING EXERCISE AT EAST LA ENCLAVE

          The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has embarked on massive demolishing exercise at East La (Tse Addo). The exercise became possible after series of notices and publicity to the affected people to vacate the areas earmarked for the demolishing. The exercise that started at East La roundabout on Tuesday, 18 May 2021 will continue until all illegal structures at unauthorized areas within the La Municipality are cleared.

Speaking to some of the affected traders at the Zenith University College enclave, madam Regina said that they received the notice about three months ago and they thought it was just the normal warning they received from the assembly. According to her, the exercise came at the time they were recovering from the COVID-19 setback.

        The information services department upon reaching one of the victims Gifty a food vendor, who was affected by the exercise stated that they had been given notices three months prior to the demolition exercise but they had gone to see the assembly hierarchy to plead with them, but all seemed to have fallen on deafened ears. She went on to say she does not know where to go now if she moves.

Also, Okpoti Tetteh the husband of an affected victim stated that notices were given to them and that was a good initiative, however, their sources of income has been taken from them. He further explained that should the area be given to others if they are vacated from the area, they would not be pleased with the assembly.

          Finally, another victim of the exercise stated that for years now the assembly has always given notices for eviction but nothing had happened so they assumed it was one of their usual notices till the demolishing commenced.

The assembly assured the residents of the La enclave of a continuous and effective effort to make the community a clean and admirable one. The assembly went on to advise the residents with intentions of starting businesses to make sure they get their permits and renew them when the need be.

LaDMA HANDOVER REFURBISHED SCHOOLS

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly has handover three schools which was renovated to boost teaching and learning in the municipality to the school authorities.

The schools are south La Estate 2 Primary School and KG, the Chirings Complex KG and Maale Dada Basic School. The playgrounds for the pre-schools was installed with play items. The renovation forms part of the assembly’s activities to improve access to education in the municipality.

The MCE for the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon Solomon Kotey Nikoi pledged to address issues militating against other schools in the municipality. Hon Solomon Kotey Nikoi advised the teachers to ensure that the pupils adhere to the COVID- 19 social and preventive protocols.
