The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGDRD) in collaboration with the GARID PROJECT Coordinating Unit organised a two-day training for the Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) under the Greater Accra Resilient and Intergraded Development (GARID) project team in carrying out of their mandate. The training started from Wednesday June 22, 2022 to Thursday June 23, 2022 at Hill View Hotel, Teiman.
The workshop held was to equip the MMAs under the GARID project with the requisite tools and strategies needed to engage with all relevant stakeholder groups and particularly the media for effective communication on the GARID project.
The participating MMAs team were taken through the implementation of the GARID project, status of implementation of component 3.3, developing strategic communication messages, the roles of GARID spokespersons, crisis messaging, maintaining control, flagging and bridging, posture and the prioritization of audience and stakeholders, to mentioned just few.
From La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Environmental Health Director, and the Municipal Information Services Department officer were part of the participants.
Mr Della the rep., for the Greater Accra Regional Minister said the meeting was one of the best that has been giving to MMDAs in the region and for that matter it is a leverage or plus for the selected MMAs. Mr Della mentioned that the training is an exposure to give the MMAs the opportunity to know how to communicate to their constituency at the local level.
Mr Della stated that most of the interventions failed not because they have not achieved their target, especially on outcomes, but because the MMAs are unable to communicate the outcome of where those interventions exist to the constituency effectively.
Mr Della therefore point out that the training would enable the MMAs to understand and appreciate how best they can communicate on the phases of the GARID project and be able to share the outcome and the impact to the electorate so that they can learn their support to the project.
