LABONE BUILDING FACES DEMOLITION FOR ILLEGAL EXTENSION WITHOUT PERMIT, AUTHORITIES CARRY OUT DEVELOPMENT CONTROL ACTIVITIES

In a bid to enforce the law on building regulations, the Development Control Department of the Labone Municipal Assembly carried out a demolition exercise on an illegal building extension without the required permit. The exercise took place on the 10th of September, 2022, in compliance with section 106 of the Local Governance Act 2016, Act 936.

The illegal structure was an extension to a building in the Labone central business district and was blocking the pedestrian walkway, posing a serious threat to the public. The owners of the property were duly informed of the violation and given a grace period to comply with the regulations, but they failed to do so, prompting the demolition exercise.

The demolition exercise was carried out in a professional and organized manner with the supervision of the Labone Municipal Assembly. The building extension was brought down with the use of heavy-duty equipment and the debris was properly disposed of to ensure a clean environment.

This development control activity sends a strong message to other property owners who engage in illegal building activities without obtaining the required permit. It is a call for property owners to adhere strictly to the building regulations to promote safety and environmental sanity.

The Labone Municipal Assembly, through its Development Control Department, will continue to monitor and ensure compliance with the regulations to safeguard the lives and properties of its citizens. It is, therefore, important for all to comply with building regulations to avoid sanctions and unnecessary loss of properties.
