LaDMA WINS FOOTBALL COMPETITION

It was an exciting day in the La Dade-kotopon municipality as the local football team, LaDMA, was set to play a friendly match against the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. The match was highly anticipated, and fans from both sides had come out in large numbers to cheer on their teams.

The match kicked off with both teams displaying their skill and talent on the field. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, known for their organized play, took an early lead in the first half, leaving LaDMA scrambling to find their footing. Despite this setback, LaDMA remained determined and continued to press forward, looking for an opening to level the score.

The second half began, and LaDMA came out strong, displaying a new level of energy and determination. The team’s captain, Kwame, rallied his teammates, urging them to push forward and play with intensity. The fans could feel the shift in momentum, and the energy in the stadium grew palpable.

Ladma statistics undertake administrative data for development

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) recently conducted an administrative data collection exercise aimed at gathering statistical information to aid in the development of the municipality. The exercise was led by the LaDMA Statistics Department and involved the collection of data on a range of administrative areas, including health, education, infrastructure, and revenue.

The exercise involved the use of modern data collection techniques, including the use of mobile applications and the integration of geographic information systems (GIS) technology. The data collected will be used to develop evidence-based policies and programs aimed at promoting development and improving the standard of living for residents of LaDMA.

Speaking about the exercise, the Head of the LaDMA Statistics Department, Mr. Richard Dede, noted that the data collected will be invaluable in guiding decision-making processes in the municipality. He further noted that the use of modern data collection techniques would help to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data collected.

The exercise was conducted over a period of two months and involved the participation of various stakeholders in the municipality, including community leaders, civil society organizations, and representatives of various government agencies. Ladma forms more cooperative societies.

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has taken steps to promote economic growth and development by assisting various associations and organizations in the municipality to form cooperative societies.

In June 2022, LaDMA provided support and guidance to over 20 associations and organizations to form cooperatives, aimed at promoting collective bargaining power and enabling members to access funding and resources that would be difficult to obtain individually.

The cooperatives formed by the associations and organizations include those involved in agriculture, trade, and craft-making, among others. By pooling their resources and expertise, members of the cooperatives can benefit from economies of scale, reduced costs of production, and increased market access, among other benefits.

Commenting on the initiative, the Municipal Chief Executive of LaDMA, Hon. Solomon Niikoi, noted that the formation of cooperatives is an important step towards empowering communities and promoting economic growth at the grassroots level.

The initiative has been widely welcomed by members of the various associations and organizations in the municipality, with many expressing gratitude for the support and guidance provided by LaDMA. It is hoped that the formation of the cooperatives will promote sustainable economic growth and development in the municipality, and improve the livelihoods of the people.

SELECTED BASIC SCHOOLS IN LaDMA EDUCATED ON PLASTIC WASTE SEGREGATION MANAGEMENT

The Ecological Restoration Club, an NGO in collaboration with the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) with funding from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Wednesday, June 27, 2022 organised a training programme on plastic waste segregation for selected schools from the La Municipality.

The schools were St Paul, La Salem Presbyterian Primary, Enobal Primary and Association School were taken through the phases of pull together and positioning plastic waste in their various schools, home and the communities.

The MCE for the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Rev Solomon Kotey Nikoi noted that, the training would influence the pupils to abstain from indecorous dumping of waste in the municipality. The Municipal Chief Executive urged the participants school teachers and the pupils to be ambassadors of plastic waste segregation management in all places.

Rev Solomon Kotey Nikoi bemoan the activities of residents who have fashioned unhealthy habit of littering the drains and unauthorised areas with plastic waste, which besieged the Kpeshie Lagoon and the beach whenever it rains heavy.

The MCE was therefore sure that the training programme would give the pupils the platform to be self-discipline on waste management issues.

Mr Odjam mentioned that, the programme is at its pilot stage and appealed to the participants to educate their colleague friends and other close relations to change their attitude towards disposal of plastic waste. Mr Odjam said that the goal for the training is to help reduce the pollution of the environment. 

TEIMAN (GREATER ACCRA REGION) MMAs COACHED ON COMMUNICATION ROLE UNDER THE GARID PROJECT.

The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGDRD) in collaboration with the GARID PROJECT Coordinating Unit organised a two-day training for the Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) under the Greater Accra Resilient and Intergraded Development (GARID) project team in carrying out of their mandate. The training started from Wednesday June 22, 2022 to Thursday June 23, 2022 at Hill View Hotel, Teiman.

The workshop held was to equip the MMAs under the GARID project with the requisite tools and strategies needed to engage with all relevant stakeholder groups and particularly the media for effective communication on the GARID project.

The  participating MMAs team were taken through the implementation of the GARID project, status of implementation of component 3.3, developing strategic communication messages, the roles of GARID spokespersons, crisis messaging, maintaining control, flagging and bridging, posture and the prioritization of audience and stakeholders, to mentioned just few.

From La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Environmental Health Director, and the Municipal Information Services Department officer were part of the participants.

Mr Della the rep., for the Greater Accra Regional Minister said the meeting was one of the best that has been giving to MMDAs in the region and for that matter it is a leverage or plus for the selected MMAs. Mr Della mentioned that the training is an exposure to give the MMAs the opportunity to know how to communicate to their constituency at the local level.

Mr Della stated that most of the interventions failed not because they have not achieved their target, especially on outcomes, but because the MMAs are unable to communicate the outcome of where those interventions exist to the constituency effectively. 

   Mr Della therefore point out that the training would enable the MMAs to understand and appreciate how best they can communicate on the phases of the GARID project and be able to share the outcome and the impact to the electorate so that they can learn their support to the project.

GLOBAL EFFORTS AND CHALLENGES: A REPORT ON WORLD AGAINST CHILD LABOUR CELEBRATION

To commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour celebration in 2022, the Department of Social Welfare organized a float/match with 50 selected students from the La Wireless circuit municipality. The objectives of the event were to educate students and the public on the negative effects of children in labor, create awareness on the existence of child labor issues in the municipality, and advocate for child labor issues in the municipality.

During the event, officers from the Department of Social Welfare, including both NABCO and National Service Personnel, marched with the students on the theme “Take Stock, Honour Our Pledge and Stop Child Labour in Ghana.” The route of the float included several stops such as wireless school, Ananse Krom, Palm wine, Kojo sardine, Spare parts, La market, La fuel station, La Bethel, La Tenu, and La Wireless school.

Placards were shared among the students with inscriptions of child labor, and they spoke through sound systems to create awareness and educate the public. The students were sensitized on the causes and negative effects of child labor at the end point of the match.

Additionally, the department visited the 37 station, Accra mall, La Market Complex, and other areas to educate the public on child labor and its prevention. The officers used placards as a medium of communication to the public, and most of the children begging on the streets were girls. The department also had discussions with parents who were allowing their children to beg on the streets and warned them of the consequences.

During the event, the department identified a woman with two children who was a refugee from Nigeria. She was warned to go back, or she would face the penalty. Additionally, the department spotted five people from Upper East folks who were begging with two older visually impaired women and three other children. The officers communicated with them and warned them not to come back but rather go back to their region and enroll the children in school.

The market women suggested that individual homes should be visited to educate them about the topic, pregnant children should be educated on birth control, and community nurses should be assigned to educate women on the negative effects of child labor. The government should enforce a law or policy on the number of children a child below the ages of eighteen (18) years should have until they are old enough and independent.

In conclusion, the Department of Social Welfare was able to reach its intended target audience during the exercise. To prevent child labor, children found on the street begging or selling during school hours should be arrested and set to shelters or homes for their parents or guardians to bail them and sign an undertaking. Bye-laws should also be implemented by the municipality Assembly to punish parents who engage their children in child labor activities.

LaDMA PLANT TREES TO GREEN THE MUNICIPALITY

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly on Friday June 10, 2022 plated 15,000 seedlings across the municipality as part of the activities to mark the Green Ghana Day.

The Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi planted the first sprout at Tenasi Junior High School at Ako Adjei followed by the Coordinating Director Mr Daniel Nkrumah and the Municipal Education Director Ms Habiba Kotomah, Mrs Emelia Monney the Director for Agric and the Assembly Members.

Speaking to the media Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the exercise and fully take responsibility of the seedlings planted. He said the future of La and that of Ghana would depend on how well the citizenry will protect the seedlings.

On the part of the director for Agric, she said her outfit in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant department and units under the assembly are to persistently monitor the development of the seedlings and offer any technical support to any member in the community to enable the trees to mature well.

She mentioned that prior to the exercise the assembly had embarked on an awareness creation to prepare residents on the exercise and how to monitor and upkeep for the seedlings.

Mrs Kotomah assured her outfit support towards the exercise by ensuring that each school plants trees in and around their schools. She pointed out that, the trees planting which have come to stay would help address environmental issues in the country.

Ladma meets with Assembly members to tackle revenue issues

La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) recently held a meeting with its assembly members to discuss strategies for improving revenue collection in the municipality. The meeting was chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Solomon Niikoi, and was attended by members of the assembly.

During the meeting, Hon. Niikoi highlighted the importance of revenue collection to the development of the municipality. He stressed the need for all assembly members to support revenue collection efforts and urged them to work closely with revenue collectors to identify and resolve challenges in revenue collection.

The assembly members also provided updates on their activities and made suggestions for improving revenue collection in the municipality. They emphasized the need for increased public awareness and education on the importance of paying taxes and levies to the assembly.

The meeting ended with a resolution to strengthen collaboration between the assembly members and revenue collectors. Assembly members were also tasked to support revenue collection efforts in their respective areas and to encourage their constituents to comply with revenue collection regulations.

Overall, the meeting was deemed successful as it provided an opportunity for the assembly members to engage with the Municipal Chief Executive and revenue collectors on revenue collection issues. It is hoped that the resolutions made during the meeting will lead to improved revenue collection in LaDMA.

80 WOMEN UNDERGOING SKILLS TRAINING AT LaDMA

Over 80 women drawn from the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality is undergoing a Six-week skills training programme organised by the Municipal Culture Unit from Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

The skills training include female adults, youth, and a male. It is aimed at equipping the women in the municipality with the requisite skills that would enable them to support their families during their active service time and after retirement.

The participants will be taken through Beading (slippers, key holder, headband, necklace, bags). Fashion Accessories (Ankara fan) and Macramé (Bracelet, Purse, flowerpot hanger).Family members and relations of the trainees were present at the opening ceremony of the assembly skills training for the participants.

In his address to the participants, Mr Adu Asante the Municipal Director for Culture Unit commended the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director for their effort and support given to his department for the training programme which has brought citizenry close to the assembly to benefit from the assembly’s programmes and activities. 

According to the Mr Adu Asante, the training is to improve the livelihood of women in La municipality. He said the projected 80 participants was exceeded and urged the authorities to review the number of participants at the last quarter of the year, looking at the responses from the citizenry from La.
