La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly Pulled Down Over 15 Illegal Structures.

Over 47 illegal developers, developing within the Tse-Addo enclaves of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality in the Greater Accra Region has been served with the final warning notices by the Assembly, while over fifteen temporary structures at the La beach and fence walls erected within drains at Tse-Addo were pull down.

The exercise was led by the Municipal Works Engineer, Mr. Richard Ben Debrah together with the Assembly’s Task Force.

Responding to questions from the residents, the Engineer said that prior to the demolition exercise, warnings and notices were served to the affected property owners instructing them to remove their illegal structures.

He continued that the Assembly’s mobile announcement van had created awareness for days while the Information Services Department officer had also sensitized the public using Latenu Radio Station for a number of days on the Assembly intended demolition exercise. He furthered that residents cannot take the law into their own hands to be irresponsible and negligent.

According to the Municipal Works Engineer, for some time now, unpatriotic citizens and developers have flouted the bye laws of the Assembly and are destroying the environment. He said none of the affected owners had permit from the Assembly. He stated that more demolition exercises would take place to deter others and advised residents to seek for building permits from the Assembly whenever they want to build, mount a structure or renovate a structure to prevent such happenings.

The Works Engineer said that the Assembly’s mandate is to ensure that the right things are done in the Municipality to circumvent ruin. He said building without a permit in the Municipality cannot be tolerated and mentioned that the Assembly holds the right to supervise and check all projects in its jurisdiction.

He therefore cautioned developers to abide by the Assembly’s development planning process or face the law.

MCE PLANT FIRST TREE TO MARK GREEN GHANA DAY IN LaDMA

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly on Friday June 9, 2023 plated 5,000 seedlings across the municipality as part of the activities to mark the Green Ghana Day.

The Municipal Chief Executive for La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi planted the first young branch at the assembly’s premises followed by the Deputy Director Mr Henry Zengers and the Assembly Members

Speaking on the theme ‘OUR FOREST OUR HEALTH’, the MCE Solomon Kotey Nikoi called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the exercise and fully take concern of the seedlings planted. He said the future of La and that of Ghana hang on how well the citizenry will look after the seedlings. He urged stakeholders to stop cutting down trees as a basis of energy.

On her part, Mrs Emelia Monney, the director for Agric said her outfit in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant department and units under the assembly are to persistently monitor the development of the seedlings and offer any technical backing to any member in the community to enable the trees to establish well.

She mentioned that prior to the exercise the assembly had embarked on an awareness creation to prepare residents on the exercise and how to monitor and upkeep for the seedlings.

She call on residents to come for the seedlings. Some of the trees planted were Mahogany, avocado, coconut, mango, lemon, orange rain trees, and others.

Mr Henry Zengers the deputy director of the assembly point out that the planting of the trees is to tackle the climate crisis. He advised the citizenry to value the importance of trees or faced the consequences of their own act.

La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly Holds 2nd Quarter Management Meeting

The La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly recently held its 2nd quarter management meeting, demonstrating its commitment to effective governance and community development.

The meeting, chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive, brought together department heads and key stakeholders to review the assembly’s performance in the first half of the year and strategize for the remaining quarters.

Key issues discussed included the progress of ongoing projects, financial performance, and the challenges faced by the assembly. The meeting also provided a platform for departments to share their successes and learnings, fostering a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.

LaDMA: Six Young Entrepreneurs Received Support

The Ghana Enterprises Agency, in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation, an international non-governmental organization, has provided support to six young entrepreneurs in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality with start-up kits, enabling them to pursue their dreams in their chosen vocations. Madam Mame Adofo, the district project coordinator of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, shared this information with the District Economic Development Committee during her update on the outcomes supervised by her.

According to her, the six individuals were among the 21 young people trained by the GEA in various artisanal programs under the project named ‘Young Africa Works’ in 2021. She mentioned that the trainees received certificates, tools, and equipment to establish their businesses. With this support, the recipients are expected to achieve financial independence. Madam Mame Adofo also confirmed that the remaining 15 beneficiaries would receive their support upon the completion of their training.

She highlighted that since its establishment in 2016, the foundation has supported 49 countries, shifting its focus to Africa in 2018 through its Young Africa Works strategy. She continued by stating that in 2020, the foundation approached the GEA with the Young Africa Works strategy for a ten-year period, extending to 2030, with three core strategies: business acceleration to fast-track the growth and productivity of small-scale enterprises, innovative, creative, and entrepreneurship (ICE), and apprenticeship to entrepreneurship (A2E).

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive Inspects Ripped Off Public School Building In The Municipality

On Monday,22nd May,2023, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Solomon Kotey Nikoi, together with officers of the Municipal Education Directorate, Municipal Work Engineer, Development Planning Officer, and NADMO Director as they toured some schools to ascertain the damage caused by the rainstorm on Saturday, May 20th, and Sunday, May 21st, 2023.

The Municipal Chief Executive and his entourage first inspected the St. Maurice Roman Building, where they observed that one of their classrooms had been completely ripped off, making it unsuitable for academic work. It was observed that the facial boards and the wood used in the roofing the building had been destroyed, posing danger to pupils and teachers.

The team thereafter continued to inspect Tenachie JHS, where the rainstorm had uprooted trees that accidentally fell on one of the classrooms, damaging the roof. The MCE tasked NADMO to cut down the fallen trees on the roof to avoid fatalities.

The team’s next point of call was at the Maale Dada School compound, where it was observed that the nails used in roofing the school building were weak due to the sea breeze and could not withstand the magnitude of the storm.

The Hon .MCE assured the Head Teachers of the affected schools that, the Assembly would be working very hard to have the problem fixed as soon as possible for pupils to return to school, especially the form three students who were preparing for their final examination.

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executibe Of La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly (Ladma)On The Construction Of Drains At Vredes-Mantiase

On Thursday, May 18,2023, the Municipal Chief Executive for the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon. Solomon Nikoi Kotey, engaged the residents of Mantiase community within Mantiase/Tse-Addo Electoral Area as part of his routine engagement with the good people of the Municipality. The purpose of the engagement was to interact with the residents on general issues and delved on sanitation and drainage issues affecting the community.

He informed the people that to improve the drainage system, the Assembly through the support from Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) would be constructing drains through Mantiase to prevent perennial flooding. He stated that the Government of Ghana led by H,E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is much concerned about improving situations,saniiation and drainage system therefore, he and his team are working assiduously to guarantee  human safety, peace and security.

The residents among others observed that, the poorly designed drainage system which is susceptible or prone to clogging with debris has contributed greatly to the issues of flooding in the area and therefore the proposed construction works should consider the design of the drain to be able to contain the volumes of rain water that come from upstream and homes through to the sea.

In response, the Works Engineer, Physical planning Officer, Urban Road Engineer and other Senior members of the Assembly who were at the meeting took turn to address the audience.

The concerns and observations made by the residents were addressed. The Municipal Works Engineer indicated that, designs for the drains to be constructed had already taken into consideration their plight.

The Hon. MCE, technical officers and residents after the deliberations toured the stretch where the drains would be constructed to have firsthand information and to appreciate the enormity of the challenges the residents face any time it rains.

The residents expressed their gratitude with the development and thanked the MCE and the Assembly for the proposed project.

La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly Convenes 1st General Assembly april

The La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly recently convened its 1st General Assembly, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to participatory governance and community development.

Presided over by Hon. Baah Nyarko, the assembly brought together elected assembly members, government appointees, and traditional authorities. The gathering served as a platform for open dialogue, decision-making, and collective action towards the development of the municipality.

La Municipal Assembly Chief Executive Tours Unauthorised Development Sites

The Chief Executive of the La Municipal Assembly embarked on a tour to inspect unauthorised developments at La Boma and Kpeshie Lagoon. The visit, which took place yesterday, was part of the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring sustainable development within the municipality.

At La Boma, the Chief Executive expressed concern over the rapid and unregulated developments in the area. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing planning regulations and urged developers to seek the necessary permits before commencing any construction activities.

The tour continued to Kpeshie Lagoon, where the Chief Executive observed the encroachment on the lagoon’s buffer zones. He emphasized the importance of preserving our natural resources and warned against activities that could lead to environmental degradation.

The Chief Executive assured residents that the Assembly is taking steps to address these issues and promote responsible development. He called for the support of all stakeholders in achieving this goal.

REVIEWING LOCAL PLANS (PLANNING SCHEMES) KEY FOR EFFECTIVE PLANNING-LaDMA

FLASHBACK: A SCENE OF EXHIBITION OF DRAFT REVISED LOCAL PLAN FOR CANTONMENTS AT PALM WINE JUNCTION SHELL FILLING STATION-LA

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) has identified the reviewing of Local Plans (Planning Schemes) for the Cantonments residential area as a key for effective planning within the area.

According to the Physical Planning Director for LaDMA, the reviewing exercise of the area was in the pursuant to Section 46(4) (f) of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925) to review and update existing  Local Plans, which have become updated in the face of current development patterns and changes in land uses over time.

Mr Fredrick Anthony Mompi, the director of the Physical Planning Department said, the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority have publicised the reviewing exercise in the National News Papers for residents to submit their input and comments on the proposals for consideration in the final draft plan, prior to approval. According to him, the Information Services Department Mobile Cinema Van has gone round the Cantonments area publicising the reviewing exercise for days.

According to the director of Physical Planning Department, copies of the draft revised Local Plans have been placed at the following locations within the Cantonments area for public viewing and input and about the proposals.  Ghana Free Zones Authority, W.E.B.Dubois Centre, Morning Star School, Palm Wine Junction Shell Filling Station, Embassy Gardens, Risen Christ Church, Covenant Family Community Church, (Soul Clinic) Koala Shopping Centre, American Embassy Taxi Rank and Togo Embassy Taxi Rank.

Mr Daniel Nkrumah, the coordinating director for LaDMA urged the stakeholders to cooperate with the team of field officers who have been deployed by the assembly to the Cantonments area to collect and validate Land Use data that will be incorporated into the revised plan for approval.

MCE Tours Basic Schools To Assess Challenges, Appeals To Corporate Ghana For Assistance

The Municipal Chief Executive of La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Hon Solomon Kotey has paid a working visit to some basic schools in the Municipality to assess the challenges the schools face and develop necessary solutions to address them. 

The schools visited are South La JHS and South la Estate Basic School among others, all located in the South La electoral area. At South La 1 and 2 Basic Schools, the team observed that the structures and roofs were weak with iron rods protruding out of the pillars. The team also observed an abandoned GetFund project which was yet to be completed.  

When the team got to the Salem Basic School, Madam Rita Osei Agyeman, Headmistress of the school narrated how the damaged roofing sheets had affected the electricals, ceilings, and disrupting teaching and learning especially when it rains. 

She assured that the Assembly had taken note of the challenges facing the schools and promised measures were being taken to address them whilst calling on Corporate Ghana for assistance. Earlier in an interaction with pupils, the MCE urged them to take their studies serious as well as encouraged them to work tirelessly and assured them that with discipline and God’s guidance they would come out with flying colours.
