Hon. Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Dade-Kotopon, accompanied by key staff and the media, recently conducted a thorough assessment of businesses operating at the beaches in the coastal area. The inspection focused on evaluating safety measures, hygiene and sanitation practices, environmental compliance, and licensing and documentation requirements.
A total of 36 businesses were inspected, including beachside restaurants, cafes, rental facilities, and souvenir shops. It was observed that the majority of businesses had adequate safety measures in place, maintained satisfactory hygiene standards, and were committed to environmental sustainability.
During the assessment, the team also visited the Kpeshie Lagoon, which has been identified as a niche for the La Dade-kotopon Municipal Assembly’s ecotourism potential. However, the lagoon has been subjected to various encroachments, including unauthorized developments and filling of marshy areas. As a result, the team recommended that the developers be summoned, and all unauthorized buildings should be demolished to curb any potential flood in the municipalities.
The inspection identified several areas where improvements could be made to enhance the overall visitor experience and align with regulations. These included encouraging regular staff training on emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures, providing clearer signage for emergency exits, and conducting frequent monitoring of washroom facilities.
Furthermore, businesses were encouraged to adopt sustainable practices, such as reducing single-use plastics and increasing the use of biodegradable alternatives. The team also suggested strengthening the enforcement of waste management regulations and facilitating a streamlined process for businesses to acquire and renew licenses, ensuring regular checks for adherence to regulatory standards.
In conclusion, the inspection revealed that the majority of businesses in the coastal area complied with safety, cleanliness, and environmental standards. However, there is always room for improvement, and implementing the recommendations provided can further enhance the businesses’ operations and contribute to the sustainable development of the coastal area. Hon. Rev. Solomon Kotey Nikoi and his team’s efforts to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors are commendable, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of their actions on the tourism industry in La Dade-kotopon.
