MEETING WITH THE FISHERFOLK COMMUNITY

The La Dade-kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) under the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Solomon Niikoi, was committed to engaging with the various communities in the municipality. One such community was the fisherfolk, who played a crucial role in the area’s economy and culture.

Hon. Niikoi, along with other LaDMA officials, scheduled a meeting with the fisherfolk community to listen to their concerns and explore ways to improve their livelihoods. The meeting was to take place at the beachfront, where the fisherfolk could share their experiences and challenges directly.

On the day of the meeting, the LaDMA officials arrived at the beachfront and were warmly welcomed by the fisherfolk community. The atmosphere was friendly, with the sound of the waves providing a soothing background to the discussions.

Hon. Niikoi began the meeting by addressing the community and expressing his gratitude for their willingness to engage in dialogue. He acknowledged the importance of the fisherfolk community in the development of the municipality and spoke of LaDMA’s commitment to working closely with them.

The fisherfolk community shared their challenges, including the depletion of fish stocks, inadequate fishing equipment, and the lack of access to credit facilities. Hon. Niikoi and his team listened attentively and offered suggestions and solutions where possible.

The LaDMA officials spoke of their plans to improve infrastructure in the area, including the construction of a modern fish market, and to provide training and support to the fisherfolk community. They also encouraged the community to form cooperatives to access credit facilities and to work together to manage fish stocks sustainably.
