The La Dade-kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) had always prioritized community education and engagement in promoting social and economic development in the municipality. One of the critical areas of focus was gender issues, and LaDMA officials were determined to educate the populace on the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
LaDMA officials, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Solomon Niikoi, organized a series of community engagement programs to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. The programs were designed to raise awareness about the challenges that women face in their daily lives and to encourage communities to promote gender equity and inclusivity.
The first program took place at a local school, where students were educated on gender issues and the importance of gender equity in society. The program was led by a team of experts who spoke on the benefits of gender equality and women’s empowerment. The students were encouraged to embrace diversity and respect everyone’s rights, regardless of gender.
The second program was held at a local market, where traders, mostly women, were educated on their rights and the importance of gender equity in business. The program highlighted the benefits of empowering women in the marketplace, including increased productivity and economic growth. The traders were also encouraged to form cooperatives and work together to access credit facilities and market opportunities.
The final program was a community forum where leaders, including traditional leaders and religious leaders, were educated on gender issues and the importance of promoting gender equality in their communities. The forum provided a platform for participants to share their experiences and challenges in promoting gender equity and to discuss ways to overcome barriers.
Through these programs, LaDMA was able to raise awareness on gender issues and encourage communities to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. The programs were well received, with participants expressing their appreciation for the initiative and their commitment to promoting gender equity in their communities.
The programs were just the beginning, and LaDMA officials planned to continue engaging with communities to promote gender equity and inclusivity. It was a step towards building a more equitable and just society, where everyone had an equal opportunity to thrive and contribute to the development of the municipality.
